Less waiting, more living
B- 01The problem
Many neighbourhoods have narrow roads that big buses can't use, and the first and last kilometre to the train is often the hardest part of the trip.
- 02The fix
Free Smart Selangor Buses on main routes, plus on-demand DRT vans for narrow, dense areas, booked by app at a flat fare (RM2 during the pilot). Councils review bus routes so every ringgit is well spent. Local road upgrades, such as the new Taman Kinrara link road, help too.
- 03The proof
More than 76 million free bus rides since 2015, on 59 routes (as of April 2025). DRT started as a pilot in Kinrara in March 2023 and by 2024 was running in Puchong, Ampang, Bandar Utama, Subang Jaya, Shah Alam, Klang, Serdang and Hulu Kelang.
- 04What's next
More DRT zones in 2026 (for example Shah Alam for UiTM students) and bus-route optimisation with councils.
