Designed in Selangor

  1. 01The problem

Malaysia is strong in assembling and testing chips, but the best-paid work is in designing them, and many of our engineers leave the country to do it.

  2. 02The fix

Selangor's IC Design Park in Puchong, launched in August 2024 with federal, industry and venture partners and run by SIDEC, gives chip-design start-ups a home here. A state Semiconductor Task Force, chaired by YB Ng, keeps industry, talent and government moving together. In October 2026 Selangor committed RM50 million to the national semiconductor fund through SIDEC and PNSB.

  3. 03The proof

Fresh graduates at the park earn RM5,000–6,000 to start. Home-grown firms SkyeChip and GreatASIC, both based at the Puchong park, are among those the fund backs.

  4. 04What's next

The target is 10 home-grown IC design companies within five years, and more design parks are being planned.

For students and young engineers

Career fairs such as SCOUT at SIBS 2026, internships at park companies, and a quiz to see if you're a Chip Dreamer.
